Dave Mckay In 1982, Andy Kirkland, owner of American Home Inspections, asked Dave Mckay to join his company as an inspector. At that time he also owned a remodeling company and a part interest in a Pest Control Company, all in Portland Oregon. Dave Mckay has a background in remodeling and has built several homes for himself. In working with Andy Kirkland, I was an overseer for the remodeling and did all of the Pest and Home Inspections. In 1990 Andy was going to close the business and relocate due to a severe back injury. At this time I started my own business and called it Residential Inspections and located to Vancouver Washington. I felt the need for more education and so I joined Oregon Association of Home Inspectors and American Society of Home Inspectors. In 1991 I was asked to be an expert witness in the State of Oregon, approximately six months later the State of Washington also asked me to be an expert witness. This expanded from these two states to many of the Attorneys and Realtors to this day. In 1992, I was asked by Rich Matzen of ASHI to put on a Home Inspector Seminar in Portland Oregon and ASHI would help. It was a modest success and I was asked to repeat it again in 1993. I was approached by the VA and HUD to do Inspections and First Time Home Buyer Classes. This I really enjoyed and it soon spread to banks and mortgage companies. About 1993 I was asked to help out in Commercial Inspections of Motels,Hospitals, Churches, and one enormous skyscraper in Portland. In 1995 I added the Commercial part to the inspection business. At this time I found myself working from the California border to Olympia Washington as the business grew. I hired an office manager to ease my time so I could concentrate on the Inspection part of the business. By 1996 I had to hire an additional inspector. In 1994 I was elected to the board of directors in the Oregon Assoc. Of Home Inspectors Again in 1995, 1997 and 1998. In 1997 and 1998 the business had four employees and was still growing. Do to my parents failing health in Phoenix AZ., and the excessive rain in Washington, I decided to sell my business and move to Arizona. The business sold in June of 1999 and I relocated the inspection business to Phoenix AZ. In Phoenix I have been building the Commercial and Residential part of the business, And have been an expert witness on two cases. I have been teaching continuing educational classes for several of the Real Estate Schools here in the valley. |
